High Speed Glass Container Transfer—Solution to Move Tempered Glass

This linear actuator/electric cylinder is a good example of a custom solution that we developed for an OEM. There are many hundreds of these in use today around the world. Operating around the clock at up to 70 inches per second, these 1,000 pound thrust linear precision actuator/electric cylinders are extremely reliable. These linear actuator/electric cylinders are used to load the glass in the tempering oven with glass containers coming out of the machine molds.

Thirty to forty containers are moved at one time, synchronized to load the glass in the tempering oven conveyor operating at forty inches/second, and released, free standing on the conveyor. This is a twin piston rod construction, which is an E•DRIVE patent. The twin piston rods absorb the reaction torque associated with the high speed moves as well as enabling the use of sophisticated bearing supports on both ends of the ball screw which in turn allows very high shaft speeds.
